Fly Fishing Skills Stations

Yuba Fest will provide Fly Fishing Skills Stations to show you basic skills that every fly fisher needs. Learning these skills will help you to improve your fly fishing knowledge and help you gain confidence.

Fly Tying Station
The fly tying station will have many world-class fly tiers demonstrating their skill of tying fly patterns. You can learn fly tying techniques by watching and asking questions. The demonstration tiers will be glad to answer your questions. The tiers will be tying fly patterns that you can utilize on local waters. They can explain what they are tying and why. Fly tying is a fun and integral part of fly fishing.

Bug Station (Entomology)
The Bug Station will show you the bugs that trout eat. They will venture down to the river and capture bugs and help you learn to identify them. Mayflies, Caddis flies, and Stoneflies and other creatures live in our rivers. You will learn about their life cycles and how to imitate them with flies. Learning to identify and imitate these bugs is a big part of fly fishing.

Knots Tying Station
Every fly fisher must learn how to tie fly fishing knots. You will be shown how to properly tie essential knots. You will learn where to use the knots and why. Every time you go fishing you tie knots. You need to add tippet to your leader with a Surgeons Knot or a Blood Knot. You need to tie on a fly with a Clinch Knot or a Loop knot. Sometimes you need to add a loop with a Perfection Knot. You can learn all about these knots, how to tie them and when to use them. The knot tying crew will answer any questions that you ask.

These fly fishing skills stations are a great opportunity to learn and improve your fly fishing skills. Have some fun and learn a lot.
