NCCFFI Conservation Grant Program

The NCCFFI Conservation Grant Program is open to NCCFFI-affiliated clubs in Northern California and Northern Nevada. Eligible conservation projects must echo the FFI’s support of polices that encourage protection of habitats and fish. As of January 27, 2017, the FFI adopted a Conservation Policy Plan that addresses policy positions regarding Catch & Release, Fishable Waters (Rights of Anglers), Native Fish, Native Fish Conservation, and Invasive Species.

NCCFFI Conservation Grant Evaluation Criteria

NCCFFI Conservation Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000. However, larger or smaller awards may also be considered. NCCFFI Conservation Grants are awarded based on the following evaluation criteria.

The project provides a tangible benefit to fish or fisheries habitat in Northern California and Northern Nevada.
The project sets specific and achievable goals and objectives.
The project has the potential to involve and mobilize members of the sponsoring NCCFFI-affiliated club.
The project offers potential to educate NCCFFI members and the general public about the importance of the resource being protected.
The project focuses on an issue which is of strategic importance to the NCCFFI and the members of affiliated clubs.
The project should be timely and the proposal should enumerate the reasons it should be undertaken now.
The proposal should outline the availability of matching funds through the sponsoring club or other funding sources.

Applying for an NCCFFI Conservation Grant

NCCFFI Conservation Grant applications are generally reviewed twice a year. Under special circumstances, in which a project requires more immediate funding, specific proposals may be considered under a different timeline. An application outside of the stated timeline should make a strong case for more timely approval and funding.

The mission of the NCCFFI is to enhance the fly fishing experience in Northern California and Northern Nevada by uniting our members and member organizations to offer resources that encourage education, conservation, and restoration. We have a long history of local involvement in fishery conservation in California and Nevada, with a focus and passion for conservation on the most critical issues affecting the species we fish for and the places we fish. The NCCFFI is uniquely positioned as the leading organization in Northern California and Nevada to help in educational resources in all areas of fly fishing.

Every year the NCCFFI receives numerous requests for Conservation & Education grants but not enough dollars to fund them all. Please consider a donation to support our worthwhile efforts.
