Education Efforts

The NCCFFI’s education effort adheres to the Fly Fishers International’s core belief is that through education, including both angling skills and environmental stewardship, fly fishing will grow and be preserved for future generations.

In 1965 the founders of the original Federation of Fly Fishermen wrote: “We, in conclave assembled, out of a firm and abiding conviction that fly fishing as a way of angling gives to its followers the finest form of outdoor recreation and natural understanding, do hereby join in common effort in order to maintain and further fly fishing….”

Today, the NCCFFI builds upon this original conviction by working through our membership of clubs and individuals to develop educational opportunities designed to enhance the enjoyment of fly fishing for anglers of all abilities. The FFI’s Learning Center will gather many of the tried and true programs from around the world to offer a new, online “Learning Center” geared for all fish in all waters. All-inclusive two-day workshops, short topic-based classes, videos, and resources for further study will be made available as the Learning Center develops.

The NCCFFI’s will focus on education at the club level focused on general fly fishing skills, fly casting, fly tying, and conservation. To that end, the Council offers speakers who can offer presentations at club meetings and in classroom settings.

Learning Center

The NCCFFI regularly provides a “Learning Center” at fly fishing shows and venues, where council volunteers teach fly tying, casting, entomology, and knot tying to visitors of all ages. NCCFFI affiliated clubs also offer opportunities to expand your fly fishing knowledge throughout the year.
